Canary Islands Weather in December, January & February
The Canary Islands weather during sees the temperature drop to it’s coldest. The rainfall will increase to the highest yearly levels. December is not the coldest month but it sees more rainfall than most of the Canary Islands.
The coldest month is January when the average temperature will hit a low of 17 Celsius. February sees a marginal increase in temperature and a small decrease in rainfall.
December is by far the rainiest of any month in the Canaries. Many areas see as much as double the rainfall than in any other month. The hours of sunshine will now be at 6 hours. The lowest for any month but almost equal to January. The average daily temperature will now drop to around 17 Celsius.

January is one of the busiest month for tourism in the Canaries. Tourists will flock here to enjoy the warm winter temperatures still on offer.
The Sea temperature will now drop to around 19 Celsius in most places. The hours of sunshine will remain at 6 hours. There is less rainfall in January than December. Some islands can see over double the rainfall of others. Gran Canaria lies next to Tenerife but will often sees less than half the rainfall.
February will see an increase in the temperature but you unlikely to notice a difference. The average temperature across the islands will remain around 17.5 Celsius. February sees much less rainfall than any of the previous winter months. It will likely rain for around 6 days of this month.
The Sea temperature actually drops to 19 Celsius during February. The hours of sunshine will increase to 8 hours as we enter spring.
Canary Islands Weather in March, April & May
The weather in the Canary Islands in spring is excellent. These months is where “The Islands of Eternal Spring” name comes from. The spring months of March, April and May will see the temperature increasing.
The hours of sunshine will also continue to increase leading up to summer. The Sea temperature is still on the colder side in early spring but will warm up leading into summer. Spring sees much less rainfall than winter, the weather now will be ideal for most.
March sees the temperature begin to increase in the Canaries. The amount of rainfall will decrease further. The Sea temperature remains around 19 Celsius. The hours of sunshine will be a little more than the 8 during March.
The average temperature during March will be approaching a warm 20 Celsius. Most of the days will remain dry. This month has recorded temperatures that exceed 30 Celsius. It’s more common to expect temperatures in the low twenties Celsius.
April is sees perfect temperatures of around 21 Celsius. The days of rainfall will now be minimal. The Sea temperature will again be increasing across most of the Canaries. April has recorded temperatures of over 38 Celsius in some parts. The hours of sunshine will be approaching 9 per day towards the end of April.
May is about as perfect as it gets in the Canary Islands. With an average temperature of around 23 Celsius. May sees very little rainfall but some of the islands will see a few days at most. The Sea temperature will increase to 21 Celsius during May.
The hours of sunshine will increase to a little over 9 hour per day. Some of the Canary Islands have seen temperatures of around 40 Celsius during this month. May is almost an extension of the summer months. September.
Canary Islands Weather in June, July & August
The Canary Islands weather in summer is hot with an average temperature of around 25 Celsius. The temperature during the months of July, August and September can exceed 30 Celsius. Record temperatures that exceed 40 Celsius at times are not uncommon here either.
June is start of summer in the Canary Islands when the temperature increases. The average temperature tends to be somewhere around 21 Celsius now. There is also a big reduction in rainfall. It’s common to experience temperatures that exceed 30 Celsius. Most islands have recorded a temperature that exceeds 40 Celsius in June.
July is one of the hottest months in the Canary Islands. The temperature will exceed 30 Celsius on many days during this month. The average temperature is around 27 Celsius. A record temperature of 42.9 Celsius was recently recorded in Tenerife in July. The Sea temperature is warming to around 23 Celsius. There is no recorded rainfall during this month.
August is the hottest month in the Canary Islands but September can be as hot in places. The average temperature is 27 Celsius but like July, this is likely to exceed 30 Celsius. You could even experience a temperature of over 40 Celsius in August. You are unlikely to see any rainfall during August. The Sea temperature will remain around 23 Celsius.
